Killers: Taghazout's Most Powerful Local Break
Killers sits in the middle of the Taghazout surf zone — geographically between Hash Point and Anchor Point, and in terms of character somewhere between the two. It’s faster and more hollow than Hash, less relentless than Anchor Point on a big day, and one of the most exciting waves in the area when the conditions are right.
The name gives you a fair indication. This is not a wave that forgives poor timing or hesitation on the drop.
The Wave
Killers is a right-hand point break — or more accurately, a fast right-hand reef section — that breaks over a shallow rocky reef. At its best it produces short, punchy, hollow rides with the kind of speed that demands a quick decision on every wave. It doesn’t have the length of Anchor Point, but the quality of the individual sections can be exceptional.
It works across a wide range of sizes but shows its best face on a medium swell — somewhere in the 3–5ft range — when the sections connect and a decent ride becomes possible. Below 2ft it’s fairly unexciting. Above 6ft it becomes a serious wave and the hold-downs on a bad wipeout are real.
Best Conditions
Swell: NW to NNW, 3–6ft. Works on smaller swells but the best sections require some push.
Wind: Offshore easterly, best in the morning. Goes to pieces in side-onshore conditions.
Tide: Mid to low is generally best. Gets very shallow and fast at low tide — the hollower, more challenging version of the wave.
Best months: October to March, same as the rest of the Taghazout coast. Killers works slightly better on a more northerly swell angle than a pure WNW, so some of the best days are when Hash Point is good but slightly walled.
Skill Level
Intermediate to advanced. The hollow, fast nature of the break and the rocky reef make it unsuitable for beginners. You need to be comfortable making quick drops, reading a fast-moving wave, and handling a reef wipeout without panicking.
Getting There
Killers is located on the coast north of Taghazout village, between the village and Anchor Point. It’s accessible on foot from Taghazout in about 20 minutes along the coast path, or a short ride by grand taxi heading north. The access down to the water involves a short scramble over rocks — wear reef boots or hard-soled shoes for the entry.
Practical Info
- Hazards: Shallow reef, fast hollow sections, rocky entry and exit. Reef boots strongly recommended.
- Crowds: Significantly less crowded than Hash Point. On most days you’ll share it with 5–15 surfers, predominantly local and experienced visiting surfers.
- No facilities on site. Bring water, board wax, and any equipment from Taghazout village.
- Water temperature: Same as the rest of the coast — 3/2mm wetsuit for winter, shortie or boardshorts June–August.
