The Taghazout
Guide

Surf, Travel & Life on Morocco’s Atlantic Coast

What Is Taghazout?

Taghazout is a small Amazigh (Berber) fishing village on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, about 20km north of Agadir. It sits at the top of a cluster of world-class right-hand point breaks that have been drawing surfers from Europe and beyond since the 1970s. These days it’s also become a hub for yoga retreats, digital nomads, and anyone looking to swap a grey European winter for warm water and slower days.

Tamraght — its slightly quieter neighbour 2km to the south — has grown into an equally good base, with its own breaks, a more relaxed feel, and generally better value accommodation.
Together, they’re the best surf destination in Africa. This guide covers both.

What You’ll Find Here

Surf Guides

The surf guide covers every break from Agadir Harbour in the south to Imsouane in the north — including Devil’s Rock, Hash Point, Anchor Point, Killers, Mysteries, Boilers, Imsouane Cathedral and more. Conditions, skill levels, best months, and how to get there.

Where to Stay

Taghazout and Tamraght are the main bases — the comparison guide will help you decide. Further afield, Imsouane is worth considering if you want to escape the crowds entirely.

Things to Do

Beyond surfing: Paradise Valley, sandboarding at Timlalin, yoga retreats, day trips to Essaouira and Imsouane, camel rides, hiking. The activities section has the detail.

Getting Around

How to reach Taghazout from Agadir airport, from Marrakech, and how to get around once you’re here. Including the Souk to Surf bus.

By the numbers:

Most travel guides are written from a laptop. Ours were written from a coworking cafe in Tamraght. Here’s what that looks like in numbers.
