Taghazout is the only destination on the African continent to appear on Tripadvisor’s 2026 Travellers’ Choice list of top global travel hotspots. The award, released this month, sits it alongside a small group of small-town coastal spots picked out by traveller reviews as places where interest is surging ahead of the new travel year.
What the award actually measures
The Travellers’ Choice Trending list is not a critics’ pick — it draws on the volume, quality and consistency of user reviews left through the year. Places rise when reviewers give them ratings and language that outpace expectations. In Taghazout’s case, the review flow points to three drivers: consistent Atlantic swell, an expanding wellness and yoga scene, and a run of new small hotels that opened alongside the Marriott’s arrival at Taghazout Bay earlier this year.
The village has grown quickly. Total accommodation stock in Taghazout Bay reached about 4,800 beds by mid-2026, and Tripadvisor’s own attractions listing now runs to more than 60 activities, up from fewer than 20 in 2020.
What it means on the ground this autumn
For travellers this changes two things. First, the shoulder season is thickening: October’s Taghazout Surf Expo and the September–November swell window are drawing more first-time visitors, not only returning surfers. Second, the mid-range gap has narrowed. Board rentals, surf packages and learn-to-surf lessons still start around the same price points as a year ago, but the best-rated schools now book out 10–14 days ahead in the peak windows.

What we would do about it
If a first trip: aim for late September through mid-November, base in Taghazout village or Tamraght, and pair five days of surf with a day out in Paradise Valley or an Essaouira day trip to break up the beach rhythm.
If you have been before: consider Imsouane just to the north, where the point break still runs quieter than Anchor Point on the busiest days, or extend into an Atlas Mountains day trip for cooler air. Prices climb steepest during Christmas and February half-term — the last two weeks of November and the first two of February remain the best-value windows.
