The Gnaoua World Music Festival took place in Essaouira on 25–27 June 2026, bringing three days of free outdoor concerts and cross-cultural collaboration to one of Morocco’s most atmospheric coastal cities. In its 28th edition, the festival drew over 500,000 visitors across the long weekend and is widely considered one of Africa’s most important world music events, combining traditional Gnaoua spiritual music with international genres including jazz, blues, and electronic. The 2027 edition is expected in late June — dates will be confirmed closer to the time.

Essaouira sits approximately 175 kilometres north of Taghazout — a two-hour drive along the Atlantic coast. Entry to all outdoor concerts is free. Some headlining acts and indoor collaborations carry ticketed admission, but the free outdoor stages attract the majority of the festival atmosphere.

Getting there from Taghazout: grand taxis and shared buses run the Agadir–Essaouira route year-round. During festival weekend, transport demand rises sharply.
